Orinda Parks & Recreation Summer Camp Happenings!

The Summer Camp season kick off is just over 1 week away! There are still a few spots left in Session 1, June 7-June 18, in case families are still interested in registering. Two of these camps are highlighted below:

  • Chess, 1pm-4pm, for children ages 6 to 11 years old: Immerse yourself in the exciting world of chess!  Chess is fun and can be learned quickly and easily.  Studies have shown that chess improves test results in reading, science and math, and produces growth in critical cognitive skills.  Beyond academia, chess influences social behavior including self-esteem, respect for others, patience and good manners.  And did we mention: It's fun!
  • Little Medical / Veterinary School, 9am to 3pm, for children ages 5 to 10 years old: Discover the fascinating science of the human body with Little Medical School! Through hands-on crafts, games and role playing, participants will learn STEM concepts in a fun and unique way! From broken bones, to stitches, there’s something for every future healthcare provider and science lover.

Don’t forget we’ve been able to make some adjustments that allow children to participate in full-time programming in addition to one other exciting addition:

It is important to note that COVID-19 is still prevalent in Contra Costa County. The Orinda Parks and Recreation Department's Health and Safety Programming Procedures can be found online at

Lamorinda CERT

cert logoThe CERT program offers valuable insight into the first few critical hours following an emergency related event and how individuals can become empowered to better prepare to sustain themselves, their families and their communities.

When emergencies happen, Lamorinda CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of their communities.
