Why Parents Need to Raise Money for OIS
It's not breaking news to an Orinda parent that state and local funding simply do not cover the cost of a public education in Orinda. The good news is that education is important to our parent community and through our fundraising, we have been able to raise the money required to keep OIS one of the top middle schools in the State of California and competitive with other well funded, top performing middle schools in the country. Since the passage of Prop 13 in 1978, OIS parents have needed to raise money to help bridge the gap between public funding and the true cost of a well-rounded, high-quality education for all OIS students.
The OIS Parents' Club believes that one of the most important ways you can support your middle school student is by making a financial contribution to the Parents' Club. For the 2008/2009 school year, we have made a commitment to provide funding of more than $600 per student ($480,000) to support the important people, programs and projects we proudly sponsor. This funding is above and beyond money our school receives from the OUSD or EFO.
Our Fundraising Program
The Make a Difference campaign is our major fundraiser. We keep things simple and just ask that once a year you make a direct donation to OIS. In addition, we encourage every parent to participate in eScrip and other Electronic Fundraising efforts. Also, this is the second year for our Golf Tournament so please support this fun event which raises money for our school.
The Money We Raise Benefits YOUR Student
Our Parents' Club takes pride in the fact that when you donate money to our school, we make every effort to ensure that it's spent to benefit your student during each one of his or her three years at OIS. Your student is here for a very short time and it's important that we use the resources parents provide in a timely manner. We work closely with OIS teachers and the administration to identify needs at our school and to fund them, ASAP! We keep a prioritized list of needs and when funds are available, we allocate them.
