Concert Band, String Orchestra, 6th Grade Bulldog Band, Jazz Band
Seventh/Eighth Grade Concert Band
is an intermediate/advanced level band that performs a wide variety of music at assemblies, concerts, community events and tours. Concert Band is designed for students who have achieved an exceptional level of rhythmic, musical and ensemble skills. Band members are eligible to audition for the OIS Jazz Band.
String Orchestra
is open to violin, viola, cello and bass students in grades 6/7/8 who have two years of study experience or the approval of the instructor. This performance-oriented ensemble performs a wide variety of music at assemblies, concerts, festivals and community events. The instructor selects one pianist by audition.
Sixth Grade Bulldog Band
is open to woodwind, brass and percussion students who have a minimum two years of classroom music experience. The number of percussionists is limited by previous teacher's recommendation and/or auditions tba. Bulldog Band performs at the annual Winter and Spring school concerts, and is a springboard to the Concert Band. Bulldog Band students are now urged to come and join the OIS Jazz Band!
OIS Jazz Band
is open to OIS students in all grades. Participation in one of the other OIS ensembles is Mandatory. The OIS Jazz Band meets after school on Mondays from 2:45-3:35 (Full Band), on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:15 (Full Band), and on Thursdays from 3:30-4:15 (Sight Reading and Improv.). Swing, Blues, Rock, Latin, Funk..... just a few of the many styles that the OIS Jazz Band gets to explore during the year. The OIS Jazz Band performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts and community events.
