The Community Based Instruction Program is offered three periods per day andeach period is modified to meet the needs of those students in attendance. Studies cross all curricular areas.  Students may become familiar with what services are available in the community and utilize their money, reading, social and safety skills. In addition, computer, functional math, writing, and organizational skills are incorporated. Students may also improve their skills by cooking.

Academic instruction in reading and writing is provided, as well as tutoring in English, history, science, and math. There is also independent study with support given only as needed.

Peer groups meet weekly in order to develop and strengthen social and problem solving skills.

Grades are based upon quality of daily performance and participation.  Grades for general education classes are modified after consultation with teachers.

Communication is very important. The student agenda will have a daily accounting of what the students actually did in class, what was presented, and any assignments that were completed or need to be completed. Notes about special concerns and additional services also will be included.  Students are encouraged to e-mail home any personal reminders.   I welcome calls and e-mails.
