Mission Statement
The mission of the Bulldog Theater Company is to:
-
train and develop as many students as possible in the performing arts as performers and technicians,
-
create an environment that fosters teamwork and builds confidence,
- offer opportunities for students to demonstrate their abilities in live performances, and
- enrich our community by producing quality musical and dramatic productions.
We offer two productions each school year: a dramatic play and a musical. Students can participate as members of the cast or technical crew. By working together with adult mentors to create a quality production, students develop confidence and respect for others as well as skills in collaboration, teamwork and stagecraft.
Students must audition to be considered for a performing role and apply to be considered for a tech crew position. Auditions and tech crew applications are open to all students. All efforts are made to include as many students as possible while ensuring a quality experience for all. Based on the number of students interested in participating, it is possible that not everyone who signs up will be included.
Students audition with a monologue, and song if appropriate, for performing roles. Actors are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and be prepared with all assigned work, especially line memorization. Missing rehearsals may lead to being re-cast in a smaller role or removal from the show.
Student Tech Crew members are responsible for set and costume changes, managing props, and running the sound board, light board and spot lights during technical rehearsals and performances. Tech Crew members may assist with set, prop, and costume construction. Tech Crew members are expected to attend scheduled meetings or workshops, technical rehearsals, and all performances.
Program communications and forms are posted on this website. All families participating in the audition, interview or production process will benefit from becoming familiar with accessing this website.
Program Structure & Parent Involvement
The program is a collaborative effort involving the Producer, Director, Event Manager, Technical Manager, cast and crew members and their parents. The Producer, Event Manager and Technical Manager are responsible for organizing and overseeing the many aspects of our program. The Director is the artistic manager of the production and is responsible for auditioning, casting, and preparing the actors for the show.
Parents are a very important part of our team, and we would not have this program without their volunteer hours. Parent volunteers chair production areas or serve on sub-committees: sets, props, costumes, make-up, backstage, music and sound effects, lighting, sound, publicity and publications, tickets, house operations, and concessions.
